Anti-Explosive Decompression Materials
In extremely high pressure applications, gasses can begin to permeate elastomeric materials and components like O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts. These gasses can saturate the material, filling any available molecular voids. When the pressure of the application decreases, the gas naturally flows out of the elastomeric material over time. Depending on the shape of the gas molecule, the penetration and subsequent removal of the gas may occur at different rates. If the pressure decreases too quickly, the elastomeric material, O-ring, gasket, or custom molded part can experience explosive decompression: a sudden and violent release of gas from a high-pressure environment that can cause severe damage to equipment and endanger personnel.

They are made from specialized materials that are resistant to high-pressure gas environments and can withstand sudden pressure drops without rupturing. These O-rings, gaskets, & custom molded parts are designed to be resilient and retain their shape, even after exposure to high-pressure gas environments.
Materials that have passed NORSOK M-710 or NACE TM0297 testing are proven to perform well in these types of environments.
